A little more on Mount Everest
The tip of Mount Everest is the highest point on earth. Standing 8848m or just under 9km above sea level, it is 237m taller than the next mountain, K2. It resides in the Himalayan ranges and its summit is located on the border of Tibet and Nepal.
Formed around 60 million years ago when the Indian tectonic plate ran full speed into the Eurasia plate. The force of the impact pushed the landmass upwards, forming the Himalayan mountain range. While the speed of the Indian plate may seem slow at 20cm per year, it is 5 times faster than any other plate in the world has ever moved!
