A little more on the Harbour of Rio de Janeiro
Located on the eastern shore of Brazil, the Rio de Janeiro harbour lays protected within Guanabara Bay. Deep and big enough for many large ships to sail up close to the centre of Rio, the harbour played an economically significant role to the city. While important, its functional role is not what it is famous for.
Selected as a 7 natural wonder of the world by CNN, the harbour is known and loved for its natural and surrounding beauty. Set within a backdrop of rainforests and mountains that extend towards the mouth of the bay, 130 islands, famous beaches, and the modern city of Rio, the harbors setting needs to be seen to be believed.
One of the best ways to view the bay and all of its surroundings is to be in the shoes of the Christ the Redeemer statue, a new 7 wonder, who stands on the peak of the Corcovado mountain, directly overlooking the city and harbour of Rio de Janeiro.
