A little more on the Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World is considered to be the greatest monument ever built for love. Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631, the mausoleum was built for his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal after she died giving birth to their 14th child. Constructed of white marble brought in by 1000 elephants, it took 22 years, 22 000 people and 32 million rupees to build such an impressive architectural masterpiece.
It is hard to capture such a site in a photograph. With the white marble acting like a mirror, it takes on all the colours of the sky. This has stunning effects in the light of the sunrise and sunset where it changes from blacks, blues, to pinks then oranges and gold’s before settling to white. The dynamic nature of these transitions makes it a captivating experience that must be seen. Add to this the combination of sheer scale and intricate detail, it is easy to understand why this must be experienced with all your senses.
